November Update

WHOAS continues to work hard taking care of wild horses that were in need of rescue. Peeking out to see what was going on was our resident herd stallion, Portero. He and his harem are doing well even with the arrival of snow but at least not the extreme cold.

A couple of our younger residents are now ready to find their forever home.

This is Issac a two-year old gelding who has been with us over a year. He is an adorable and friendly fellow who loves his attention. He will grow up a little more and make the perfect trail horse for the right owner who can bond with him.

He has been freeze-branded, gelded, wolf teeth removed and vaccinated. Issac is also completely halter broken, leads well and has had farrier work done. He is ready to join the right human and family.

Here is a picture of Izzy, who is one of the fillies born into our resident herd and her sire is the magnificent Portero. She is the only foal born this past spring that has not been spoken for. She is only 8 months old right now and will be weaned in the new year and at that time she will be ready to go to a loving home.

She is friendly, approachable and likes to be rubbed and patted by our volunteers. Why not come out and visit with her and see if she is the additional family member you would want to join your herd.

Portero and his herd are well taken care of throughout the year and in the winter months are fed hay out in the fields where they live to assure their health and welfare. That along with feeding the other horses in our care, is a very expensive proposition especially this year with the cost of hay. Along with veterinary care and maintaining our site, the costs can add up. So one of our biggest fundraisers to help take care of the horses throughout the year is the sale of our Wild Horses of Alberta Society calendar.

If you wish to help us with the costs of taking care of these wonderful animals, you can purchase one of our calendars. All monies raised from the sale goes to our projects. These calendars can make excellent Christmas gifts for the horse lover and there is still lots of time to place your order. You can order online by clicking on the link at the top of our web page. You can also send a cheque for $25 which covers postage and handling to our Olds address – Box 4154, Olds, AB T4H 1P7. Calendars are available throughout the town of Sundre as well.

We thank you very much for your support!
